A sensor station for automated N monitoring and fertilizer recommendation as well as the provision of reference values for the use of satellite data for site-specific N fertilization (including cloud-independent radar satellites).
Sensor stations for automated N monitoring were used to collect data for our EIP-Agri project “N fertilization advisory system” (2018-2021). The first systems have been in operation since 2022.
What are the features of the EXAgT Observatory?
- Monitoring the condition of the crops by measuring the N uptake twice a day.
- Collecting weather data from a nearby weather station, e.g. from the DWD or from our partner Pessl Instruments.
- Visualization of the temporal development of the data and transmission by e-mail to the farmer/advisor.
Based on this information, the farmer makes the decisions regarding adapted N fertilization (time and amount of application); it is possible to automate the decision-making process.
Furthermore, the station can be used to continuously obtain reference values of N uptake for the use of satellite data for site-specific N fertilization (including cloud-independent radar satellites).
